City Hall Reopened at 360 N Main St.

City Hall has moved from its previous, leased offices into the new, permanent building at 360 N. Main St. at 7 a.m.

The public can accesses the same services at the new location during the same business hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Departments located at the building include Administration, Billing and Finance, Building Inspection, Planning, Community Relations and Human Resources.

A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for Tuesday, May 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Road rage incident stops in North Liberty result in two teens arrested for weapon violations

On June 27, 2018, around 09:20 a.m., officers were dispatch to the area of Interstate 380 and Penn Street for a reporting party following a vehicle that pointed a handgun at him in a threatening manner while traveling on Interstate 380. A second altercation occurred when the vehicle stopped in North Liberty at Penn Street and Kansas Ave.  No one was injured in the altercations. Officers arrived on scene and were able to locate and identify the involved parties.

A search of the area and witnesses corroborated the location of the guns that were hidden just prior to the arrival of officers. Of the two handguns used, one was reported as stolen from Cedar Rapids.

The two Cedar Rapids males, both 17 years old, were charged with several aggravated and felony weapons violations including: Carrying Weapons, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Assault while Displaying a Weapon and a Possession of a Weapon by a felon.  This case will be referred to Juvenile Court Services and the teens were transported to the Linn County Detention Center on the charges.

The North Liberty Police Department was assisted by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Coralville Police Department, the Johnson County Drug Task Force, and the Johnson County Attorney’s Office in this investigation.

The charges filed in this case are merely accusations.  The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
