North Liberty hosts cheer zone to welcome RUN CRANDIC runners

In one month, North Liberty will welcome more than 2,100 runners of the inaugural RUN CRANDIC marathon as the race from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City passes through. To extend North Liberty’s hospitality, the city will host an official cheer zone on the lawn of the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry Street, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 29.

Community members and those following runners along the route are invited to join students, bands and athletic teams from Liberty High and North Central Junior High for a pep rally party on the east lawn of the Community Center along North Ridge Trail between Penn and Cherry streets. We’ll have pom-poms, horns and noisemakers and the North Liberty Community Library will have everything spectators need to create their own motivational posters. Free Dunkin Donuts and Capanna coffee will be available as supplies last.

While marathon runners will pass through North Liberty 15 miles into their 26.2-mile run, the half marathon will start in North Liberty at the University of Iowa Community Credit Union Financial Center. The two routes will merge at the corner of Penn Street and Ranshaw Way (Highway 965) and head south on North Ridge Trail next to the Community Center.

To date, more than 200 North Liberty residents have registered for the RUN CRANDIC marathon, half marathon and 5K races. Details and updates on the cheer zone will be announced on the RUN CRANDIC Cheer Party Zone Facebook event. To learn more about RUN CRANDIC, visit runcrandic.com.
