North Liberty project will be home to insurance giant GEICO

Insurer GEICO is moving to North Liberty, planning to open in a new 50,000-square-foot office building as early as April next year, city officials are pleased to announce.

“We’re happy to welcome GEICO to North Liberty’s family of businesses,” said North Liberty Mayor Terry Donahue. “More and more people are realizing that North Liberty is a great place to live and work, and this project will bring high-quality jobs that will add substantially to the city’s quality of life.”

The building, developed by Arizona-based Bourn Companies, will be east of Interstate 380 south of the Penn Street exit, near the University of Iowa Community Credit Union’s headquarters.

“This is a huge project, and we are thrilled that GEICO sees the ongoing potential of this area for their growth,” said Mark Nolte, president of local economic development organization, the Iowa City Area Development Group. “GEICO is a great employer, providing excellent career opportunities, and this new facility will allow them to attract an even larger pool of talent.”

“We think this project will be a valuable addition to a growing area, and highlights how important things happen when great organizations collaborate,” said Don Bourn, the CEO of Bourn Companies and the building’s developer

According to Dan Beacom, GEICO regional vice president, “We are excited to work with the developer and the City of North Liberty as we build a new facility for our associates. We want to thank Coralville’s city officials for helping us build a successful business through the gracious assistance they provided over the last 20 years.”

During that time GEICO associates helped raise awareness and funds for several local organizations including The United Way, Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics, and they pledge their continuing support in the years ahead.

GEICO’s Iowa office was also awarded Top Workplace honors by The Des Moines Register for the past three years.

GEICO started out in 1936 as a very small company serving government employees and members of the military. And while now a much larger company serving all drivers, GEICO continues its special relationship with the U.S. military. GEICO provides special services to all branches of the military, active and retired and spearheads a number of partnerships with organizations that serve the military such as the USO.
