North Liberty man arrested on solicitation to commit murder and attempted murder

On June 27, 2016, around 7:15 p.m. Justin Lee DeWitt, age 36, of 110 Whitman Ave, North Liberty, was taken into custody on four counts of attempted murder and four counts of solicitation to commit murder. The defendant contacted and attempted to hire an undercover state agent to murder a business associate and his family. The defendant offered payment to the agent to complete the act.

An attempt to commit murder is a Class B felony with a maximum criminal penalty of 25 years for each count. A solicitation of another to commit murder is a Class C felony with a penalty of up to 10 years and/or a $10,000 fine for each count.

The North Liberty Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Division, the Johnson County Drug Task Force, and the Johnson County Attorney’s Office are involved in this investigation.
