Tree Trimming
North Liberty residents: please remember to trim any trees that encroach on public ways. Municipal Code requires that tree branches be trimmed up to a height of 8 feet above the sidewalk and 13.5 feet above the street.

Property owners are responsible for all plants in the public right-of-way (sometimes called the "parking" - the area between the sidewalk and the street) along their property.

Here is a link to a publication from the Iowa State University Extension with tips on pruning trees in the city: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Publications/SUL5.pdf.

Please remember to use caution when using ladders or extension tools or trimming near power lines. Click here for information on trimming trees from MidAmerican Energy. It is also a good idea to wear protective gear, such as gloves and safety goggles, when trimming trees.

If you have any questions about tree or shrub trimming near streets or sidewalks, or to file a complaint about interfering limbs on a sidewalk or street, please contact City Hall at 626-5700 or fill out the online feedback form.
