Adult Basketball League Rules

Games consist of:
  • Two twenty-minute halves with running clock except for the last two minutes of the 2nd half. If there is a score differential of 20 points or more during the last two minutes the clock will not stop.
  • 2 Referees, stat-keeper, and scorekeeper.
  • Roster players only, players may play for one team only, and must play in at least 3 regular season games to be eligible for the tournament. No more than 15 active players per roster. No roster changes after the third game of the season. Any player removed from a roster may not be added again.

Team rules:

  • Rosters are due prior to the 1st game of the season.
  • Roster changes must be made prior to the start of the game in which the new player participates. Non-resident fee must be paid, if applicable, before the player can participate.
  • Teams will be required to wear numbered jerseys of the same color. Any player not wearing a jersey, as stated above, will not be allowed to participate. Jerseys with taped numbers are illegal. The jersey rule will be enforced after the third game of the season.
  • Two forfeited games during the regular season will result in elimination from post-season play.

Game Rules:
High School rules except for…

  • Six fouls per player, technical fouls count as personal fouls.
  • Upon receiving a second technical foul, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game and the team's next scheduled game.
  • Dunking will be allowed in "A" league games only. Dunking or attempting to dunk during pre-game or half time will result in a technical foul per incident. Hanging-on or grabbing the rim will result in a technical foul. Any dunk or attempted dunk during any stage of a "B" league game will result in a technical foul.
  • Fighting will result in an automatic technical, ejection, and possible expulsion from the league, at the discretion of the community center Staff. The officials determine player ejection.
  • No Jewelry will be worn during games. Wedding Rings may be taped. Players wearing jewelry during games will receive a technical foul (will not count toward personal or team fouls).
  • Swearing will not be tolerated and may result in a technical foul or ejection.
  • Teams may start or play with minimum of four players.
  • There will be a 10-minute grace period for forfeited games if a team has fewer than four players.
  • Two time-outs per half, per team. Time-outs do not carry over by halves.
  • Overtime is 5 minutes running clock with the clock stopping in the last minute only and one time-out per team. Any overtime periods beyond the first overtime will be 3 minutes with the clock stopping in the last minute.
  • After time-outs ball the may be in-bounded at half court.
  • The clock will begin to run, following a time-out, when the free-throw shooter receives the ball during the administration of a free throw.
  • All players substituting during the game must report to the scorer's table.

Court Rules:

  • The strap above the south basket is in play.
  • The curtain above the court and the west baskets are not in play.

Players are individually responsible for providing their own "Health Insurance" while participating in the N.L. Rec. League.
