Community Programming

What is Community Programming?

  • Community Programming is provided by NLTV for public service organizations free of charge.

  • The purpose of Community Programming is to produce and help produce an informative and/or promotional video for your organization.

  • Videos produced through this service will address the mission(s) of your organization, as well as promote your services from many different angles.
  • Community Programs will be shown on NLTV Channel 5 and can be distributed to other access stations or service clients.

How to use this service
It's simple to create your own video or series of videos. Just follow the steps below:
1. Decide what kind of video you want (see Three Types below).

2. Fill out a Community Programming Request Form and return it to NLTV at least two weeks prior the date you want shooting to begin.

3. If you want a longer Project Video or PSA, make arrangements with NLTV for script, talent, set, etc.

4. Set a deadline (with recommendation from Community Programmer).

5. Enjoy your finished video!
The requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis, so the sooner you can get your request in, the more likely it is we can help you.

Three types of Community Programs
Community Programs can be classified into three main types, each having its own strengths:

1. Meeting/Event

  • Viewers can get an immediate sense of the internal workings of an organization, and be brought up to date on the current concerns, projects, and views of that organization.
  • Meetings and events take little time and effort to videotape and cablecast, and are ready to be replayed or distributed quickly.
  • The exposure of television allows the public to get involved, as they can observe the meeting from home and be encouraged to attend.

2. Project Video

  • A project video guarantees extensive exposure for an organization, as it is a longer video, and can highlight a number of services.
  • Unfortunately, this type of video may present a challenge, as it can take so much time to produce, that information within the video becomes out of date.
  • The time and care put into a project video allows viewers to become emotionally involved, showing the very best aspects of your group.

3. Public Service Announcement (PSA)

  • PSAs are best for highlighting contact information of your organization. They can be played repeatedly to promote your services.
  • A good selection of concentrated information is required in this sort of video. Talented actors and good music can help get your message out.
  • Information such as address and phone number are easily picked up by the viewer of your PSA, due to short length and repetition.
