The North Liberty Community Center, home to the Recreation Department,
Library, community rooms and our local access channel (NLTV), is the cornerstone
of our community. In Fall 2004, the Phase II expansion was completed, which includes an indoor and
outdoor pool, a reception hall/conference area, a second gymnasium and a
multi-purpose room with expanded before-and-after-school services.
In April
2002, residents of the City voted approval of a $3.95 million bond issue
to help fund the expansion. In addition to this tax revenue, the City was
awarded $1,000,000 from the Vision Iowa Board in a Community Attraction and
Tourism Grant. However, private donations stilled play an invaluable role in the
funding of our Community Center Expansion. The fundraising goal was $850,000.
With the generous assistance of individuals and businesses in our community, we
have reached our goal! Thank you to everyone who donated to this project! We would like
to specially recognize Russ and Ann Gerdin for their unprecedented generosity in
a pledge of $250,000, contingent on us reaching our fundraising goal. Proctor &
Gamble of Iowa City has donated $50,000 towards the expansion.
