City Council and Mayoral Election 2005
On November 8th North Liberty citizens turned out to vote in record numbers and elected candidates to fill two City Council vacancies as well as a vacant seat as City Mayor. The preliminary winners were Dave Franker (write-in for Mayor), Gerry Kuhl (Council), and James Wozniak (Council). Kuhl won his seat with over 50% of the vote and was sworn in to office on November 22, 2005, filling the seat originally vacated by John Soukup and filled by Franker as a temporary appointment.

A recount was subsequently requested by Tom Salm, one of the Mayoral Candidates. This recount, held on November 18th, confirmed the results of the November 8th election. For more information about the recount, click here.

On November 17th, an election contest was filed by Matt Bahl (mayoral candidate) and Rob Gardiner (council candidate) to contest the mayoral and remaining council election results. For more information about the contest, click here.

On January 6, a contest court ruled that it did not have jurisdiction over the contest and that a runoff election was not required, giving Dave Franker his victory as Mayor and seating Jim Wozniak on City Council. Click here for the text of the decision on the Johnson County Auditor's site.
