Change a Light Campaign
CITY OF NORTH LIBERTY PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, energy efficiency is important to the City of North Liberty, because it saves consumers and businesses money, and helps protect the environment because it lessens greenhouse gas emissions and reduces air pollution; and

WHEREAS, the nation’s Mayors are committed to maintaining secure, safe and affordable energy resources for their citizens; and

WHEREAS, by taking the ENERGY STAR® Change a Light pledge – citizens of North Liberty have the opportunity to save energy and to help voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions by switching to ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent lighting products in their homes; and

WHEREAS, if every home in North Liberty made this one change, our city would save 2,037,168 kWh of electricity, the environmental equivalent of removing 51 cars from the road while also reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions going into the air by 3,214,680 pounds; and

WHEREAS, North Liberty is proud to do our part in this nationwide effort, celebrating this day— ENERGY STAR Change a Light Day—to promote energy efficiency and environmental stewardship in every household, by installing ENERGY STAR qualified lighting;

NOW THEREFORE, I Mayor David Franker accept this pledge and encourage the citizens of North Liberty to make this important change, and by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor, hereby proclaim October 24, as ENERGY STAR Change a Light Day Given under my hand and the Great Seal of the City of North Liberty this 24th day of October, 2006.

Mayor David Franker

Linn County REC's CEO Kim Kolberg offers the following in support of North Liberty's pledge:
"Linn County REC has offered CFL incentives for about twelve years for our members and offers a lighting program for commercial and industrial accounts as well. The specific incentives are listed on our web site at www.linncountyrec.com. Current members are eligible for a $2 incentive per CFL (max of $16 once a year per account.) with the incentive form on our website. This is a very good incentive when CFL's in multi bulb blister packs at Menards, Lowes and other stores sell for slightly above or below $2. When Linn County REC first promoted CFL's their price per bulb ranged from $18 to $25 per bulb with many having size problems. The current prices and availability show what happens when the public sees a value in a product. I am pleased to see that North Liberty may be going to help promote their use."
